We can easily relate to Oliver Hardy because he takes us into his confidence, his superior demeanor always reflecting assurance that he is much smarter and more sophisticated than Stan Laurel, who as his friend Hardy must forever look after. Which he does faithfully, and admirably. Certain few scenes, however, suggest Hardy may not be the smartest one after all. Here he stares deep into the hose held by Laurel, who after puzzling over it, is about to accidentally turn the thing on, in a big way. This is the fire engine episode cut from the conclusion of PARDON US as issued for American moviegoers. The two convicted beer baron boys were trying to rescue the prison warden's daughter, June Marlowe, during a fire. All this footage does survive in the longer Spanish adaptation, DE BOTE EN BOTE.
